The Skew Bridge carried the road over the Liverpool & Manchester Railway at Rainhill - the first time that a road had been carried over a railway - suitably memorialised by Rainhill Civic Society

The first skew road bridge over a railway. Skew bridges are incredibly complicated things and a number of attempts over railways prior to this never got completed. Stephenson went on to help create an improved method later on in life.
