The Roby Foundry in Rainhill supplied orders to William Hamilton and Co, of Port Glasgow for the construction of Kurt, a cargo ship in 1904. This ship was seized by the USA in 1917 and renamed Moshulu. After passing through the hands of several owners and appearing in the travelogues of Eric Newby (who was apprenticed aboard in the late 1930s), Moshulu can also be seen on screen in the Godfather Part ll (1974) and Rocky (1976). She is the largest remaining original windjammer, and currently a floating restaurant at Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia.
