The Roby Foundry in Rainhill supplied orders for this ocean going motor yacht which was built by Goole Shipbuilding and Repairing Co. Ltd. for Sir Malcolm Campbell, a British racing driver and journalist who set speed records on land and water in vehicles called Blue Bird. The yacht was requisitioned in 1939, taking part in the Dunkirk evacuations and Customs Examinations in the Port of Liverpool. Subsequently she was sold to French car maker Jean Louis Renault in 1953, and then to an American owner in California before returning to Europe in 1986. Now fully restored, she won the 2008 World Superyacht Award for Best Refit.
