The brick mark is for H Doulton & Co and is associated with the Liverpool Pottery and Boundary Road Brickworks and clay pit that once stood on the Morrisons Supermarket site on Boundary Road. The brick can be found at the base of an old wall on Boundary Road, St Helens.
Henry Doulton is associated with sanitary pipe and brickworks at Rowley Regis, West Midlands (1849). His brother: John is associated with the running of the Doulton company in St. Helens (1849).
Doulton blue bricks are recorded as being made in Rowley Regis because the type of clay required to make them. Doulton red bricks were made in St Helens due to the sandstone content within the local clay.
